Renting a bike from Naropa’s Bike Library: The Naropa University Bike Shack is manged by Community Cycles and maintains a library of bicycles available for all students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. Bicycles can be checked out for up to a month at a time and are maintained by Naropa’s worthy bike shack mechanics.
Things to keep in mind:
- Naropa bikes are for commuting only
- You are responsible for theft, damage and late fees
- Student ID or credit card information is required to check out a bike
Students, Faculty and Staff: Daily: Free Weekly: Free Monthly: Free
Alumni & Naropa Visitors: Daily: $5 Weekly: $15 Monthly: $35
Your bike rental includes a cable lock. The following equipment is available for additional fees: Locks, lights, helmets, tire levers, patch kits, tubes, bells, and more. Check in bike shack for prices.
Monthly Maintenance: In order to ensure the safety of everyone using the Naropa Bike Library, bikes are not checked out for more than one month at a time. When the bike is returned it undergoes a check-up to make sure that everything is working correctly. If it passes its check-up it can be checked out again.
To automatically have the bike checked out to you for the next month be sure to place a curtain ring on the handlebars. Rings are available in a bucket on the Bike Shack porch. Tags are also available in a bucket attached to the Bike Shack porch if you need to write notes for the mechanic about the bike. Bikes without rings on the handlebars indicate that you no longer wish to check out the bike and it will be re-issued on a first come first serve basis.
Refer to your “license plate” for your bike’s name and find its number on a green sticker on the frame.
If you have a safety concern with your bike, don’t hesitate to ask a bike library mechanic. She or he will most likely be able to address your concern or refer you to someone who can.
Fees and responsibilities: Late bikes for checkup and renewal accrue a late fee of $20 for the first day late and $1 per each additional day after the posted due date up to a maximum of $70. Lost, stolen or totaled Library bikes or equipment must be reimbursed $140. Stolen bikes must be reported to the police by the renter. If the bike is not returned within 30 days, the $140 fee will apply. Outstanding debts will be charged to your credit card or student account.
Remember:
- you are only checking out the Library bike for a month at a time
- you are responsible for the Library bike and any bicycle equipment in your care
- you are responsible for returning the Library bike on or before its due date for its check up
- if you cannot return the bike until after its due date, you are responsible for contacting naropa@communitycycles.org or stopping by the shack to arrange another drop-off date.
