Re-ocurring Events: Thursday Evenings Margarita Ride - Boulder Cycling Club 5:30 - 7:30pm Meet at Serranos Mexican restaurant in Gunbarrel shopping center for a casual hybrid ride around Boulder Reservoir on easy trails and surrounding back country dirt roads. Full Cycle Co-ed Ride 6pm every Tuesday at Full Cycle We'll meet at Full Cycle and pick a route that is enjoyable and relaxing. This is not a race but fun ride around the Boulder area. About one hour at a moderate pace. June 1st The Mix: Mixing Running, Cycling and Singles. 6pm meet at Full Cycle or Fleet Feet for a relaxing ride or run for about 45 minutes. At 7:15 we'll head over to The Boulder Draft House for Happy Hour and prizes. You do not need to participate in the ride or run to attend Happy Hour but only people who ride or run will be eligible for prizes. June 5th National Trails Day Saturday - Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance Construct new singletrack at Betasso Preserve Celebrate National Trails Day and help construct the new Benjamin Trail at Betasso Preserve. This multi-use path will eventually connect to the existing Canyon Loop Trail. Volunteer trail-builders will enjoy spectacular views and fresh air while working in forest groves and open meadows. Over 100 volunteers are expected at this event, but you will work closely with a small crew led by and experienced leader. Due to steep and rugged backcountry terrain, this projecgt will be physically strenuous. This National Trails Day project is co-sponsored by Boulder County, Boulder Mountainbike Alliance, REI and the Boulder County Horse Association. June 6th Boulder by Bike Ride, B-360 Rolling start between 3 - 5pm, Scott Carpenter Park Contact Annie Noble (303) 441-3242. Annie Noble Hosted by Boulder Greenway's Program. An enjoyable ride that's fun for all ages. Ride the half or whole loop. Refreshments provided as well as a post-ride picnic and prize drawings. Starts and finishes at Scott Carpenter Park. Ride to the Boulder Jewish Festival This year for the first time, Community Cycles will provide bike valet services for the Boulder Jewish Festival. A bike rally will leave from Congregation Bonai Shalom (1527 Cherryvale) at approximately 10:30, in order to make it downtown for the start of the Festival. 11 am to 5 pm, Sunday, June 6, 1200 - 1500 Pearl Street Mall and the Courthouse Lawn. Live entertainment, fine art and Judaica, ethnic and kosher food, kids activities and community organizations. For more info: Boulder Jewish Festival June 11th Park(ing) Spaces Day 10am - 2pm, various locations. See Community Cycles for info. Visit "Park(ing) Spaces" all over town where businesses adopt a parking space and convert it into a "park" for one day by setting up grass, flowers, chairs, etc. in the parking spot. June 18th Boulder Bike Bash at The Peloton 2010 4 - 7pm Peloton Interior Courtyard and Community Center, 3555 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder, CO 80303 Join the Peloton neighbors for a bike-themed happy hour at their beautiful new community center. $2 beers, food by local restaurants, information about bike rides, and more. June 20th YMCA Open House 2850 Mapleton Avenue, (303) 442-2778 Join the Y for a day of Family Fun! Events for all ages and abilities, starting out with a bagel breakfast at 9:30 followed by a beginner's bike tour or Boulder. Get a free Y pass for the day and take classes, use the machines, swim in the pool or enjoy the hot tub. At 2pm there will be a Bar-B-Que on the patio! June 22nd Boulder Beer Bicycle Benefit Boulder Beer, Wilderness Place Cost $15. Proceeds benefit Community Cycles Rolling Bike Clinics. Admission includes buffet dinner, beer, desert, choice of a pair of Smartwool socks or a Cat Eye bike light (for first 60 people), and a ticket for fantastic door prizes. Attendance is limited to 80 people, so please pre-register on line at communitycycles.org. Enjoy a buffet bar of grilled marinated chicken fajitas with Spanish rice, seasoned black beans, sauteed peppers and onions, tortillas, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and chips. (Veggie only fajitas also available.) One free beer is served with each meal. Yummy desert from The Cup will also be served. This contest of wills and coordination pits corporate teams of three bikers and one pedestrian in a timed relay event, with each participant balancing a plastic egg filled with jelly beans in a spoon from their mouth...while negotiating an obstacle course. Awards for the fastest and most spirited teams (costumes encouraged!) Lunch will be provided. Also join Smartwool to play the "Find a perfect pair" game and win free socks! 4th Annual BIKE SHORTS FILM FEST AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL Sponsored by CU Environmental Center, Community Cycles, city of Boulder Climate Smart Program and Boulder Ice Cream. All proceeds benefit Community Cycles Youth Earn-a-Bike Program. Price: $6 5:30pm: Ice Cream Social & Jeff Kagan Sing- a- long on the lawn south of Old Main Ice cream provided by Boulder Ice Cream, with entertainment by Jeff Kagan and Paige Doughty, provided by city of Boulder Climate Smart Program. Jeff is a naturalist, educator and children's musician. He and his musical partner Paige explore the realm of ecological cycles, life in the alpine ecosystem, bear and mountain lion safety, water and electricity conservation, alternative transportation and so much more through song and science. 6pm: Bike Shorts Film Fest - Old Main auditorium. Celebrating the potential, fun, and uses of the bicycle, this year’s Film Fest focuses on locally made films featuring, among others, new films from Ryan Van Duzer and a unicycle climb of many of Colorado’s 14-ners. There are also films from around the country to get you laughing, thinking and smiling about bicycles. Included are: Thoughts on My Bicycle, by a Canadian filmmaker, an interview with Randy Cohen, NY Times magazine “Ethicist” and bicyclist, and a fun music video called, Performance” from a Portland, OR filmmaker. |
